Link refers to several different incarnations of the same protagonist of Nintendo's The Legend of Zelda series.
Link has been also featured in other media from Nintendo, including its merchandising, comic books, and a cartoon series, becoming one of Nintendo icons as well as one of the most well-known and popular characters in video game history.
Through The Legend of Zelda series, Link is depicted as a child, teenager, or adult of the Hylian race, originating from the fictional land of Hyrule. Link often travels through Hyrule, defeating creatures, evil forces, and the series' primary antagonist, Ganon, while attempting to save Princess Zelda and Hyrule. To defeat him, Link usually requires the mystic Master Sword and Light Arrows, or a similar legendary weapon, obtained after many trials and battles, and magical objects or using other items such as musical instruments and weaponry.source
My first ever experience with this character will forever be embodied into my life, Link has a special place in my heart as I felt a complete transcendence of my childhood being replicated in his. As a young kid we grew up in an a heavily forested area with a plethora of families to boot. This gave me an opportunity to make a lot of friends as a young child. We were constantly having mock adventures in theses forests; fighting bushes and trees which resembled monsters that we would conjure up. I was about 6 years old when I was introduced to my first gameboy and my first video game ever The Legend Of Zelda:Links Awakinging
Ever since then I was hooked from the get go. It was like nothing I have ever experienced before, the characters, the monsters and especially the Music

This will always hold a special place in my heart. One of my most fond childhood memories was spending the night and my buddies house, we would get a bunch of junk food and stay up all night talking, joking and would beat the entire game. We did this almost every time I went over and the game never got old. That kind of innocent fun is the thing I want the most for my kids now.

As I grow up, most of my friends focus on the major releases and advancing game tech, where I just hope for another solid zelda game to come out. I have played a lot of games, but none had that fantasy feel that I get when playing zelda games. Luckily my wife hasnt played them, and I have EMUs on my PC, so we can go back to the beginning and play them all in the meantime

My first Zelda was oot but my favorite will always be Majoras Mask. The way you slowly came to understand all the interactions occurring in those three days opened my eyes to how much is going on around me that i don't see.

Ocarina of time was the first game out of the series that really stuck with me other then Link's awakening, years later Majora's Mask would follow suit.

I was blown away by how much content there really is in MM. My wife and I spent a good 3 weeks playing it every night to finish it 100%. I can take AAA titles now and finish them in less than a day.

Does anyone else have a really fond place in their heart for Wind Waker? I'm twenty now, but I remember growing up with the Gamecube and just loving the bubbly graphics and cute-intertwined-with-dark storyline.
Plus Ganondorf was just a BAMF in the final boss fight.

I had a gameboy pocket and Link's Awakening. Played it so much that the top of the cartridge had faded from exposure to the sun.

Commenting on how you said your childhood being replicated in his... well interestingly enough the original inspiration for Link's name is because... in the original Zelda on NES - he was literally how Miyamoto "linked" the gamer into the video game. Link is the middle man between you and Hyrule as well as the characters. Miyamoto is essentially the reason I freaking love Zelda. Not only is he linking you to the game he created, he is linking you to his imagination. The origin of Zelda is that "Shigeru Miyamoto was actually inspired by his own exploration as a young boy in the hillsides surrounding his childhood home in Kyoto, Japan. When he was a young, he used to venture into the forests, secluded lakes and caves. Moreover, he even ventured into many rural villages. When he was venturing, he discover cave entrance in the middle of the woods. And Miyamoto revealed that this is one of the most memorable experiences of his life." Now that is AWESOME. I totally get that sense his experiences when I play Zelda Games. Of course nowadays it's much more narrative and became its own story - but it still holds that feeling of adventure.
Offtopic but kinda on - I LOVE hiking and I partly blame Zelda.
