"Hey baby, you still awake?" read the midnight text. "Been thinking a lot about you ;)"
It had been only a week since the messy break up, but I thought it would take longer for the sloppy text messages to come rolling in. But it was Saturday night, and clearly the booze was flowing on the other end, so roll in they did.
In a moment, the screen was filled with pictures of myself I'd posted to Facebook the last week. She'd been giving me the silent treatment, but here was all the evidence that she was watching my every move along the way.
"Who's that handsome boy? ;)"
I don't know if she meant to show me she cared or was trying to hit on me but it was coming off as downright disturbing in the way that makes your spine tingle a little.
I stared at the texts in a tired stupor for a moment and then decided that any response was worth far more effort than the situation justified. My head hit the pillow and I was out like a lightbulb.
The next morning I woke up to a note on the vacant pillow next to me.
"Maybe next time you'll reply"
If a text was enough to make my spine tingle the note was almost enough to make me piss myself. I froze in bed staring at it, and then slowly got up. How did she get in? Is she still in here?
In my living room I found my leather couch torn to shreds. The stuffing was strewn around the room, and where there wasn't stuffing there was broken glass from a variety of objects - picture frames, glasses and bottles I left out and some vases I bought at an auction.
If there's one thing that she went after with a vengance, it was my bookself. I could see pages ripped from fitness manuals and shreds of all of my favorite books by late forward-thinking authors. I spied a page of Catch-22 stuffed into one of the deep gashes in my couch. At least there was some beautiful irony in all of this.
The weirdest thing about all of it though was another note, affixed to what was left of my coffee table by way of my kitchen knife.
It read "THIS IS A SAFE SPACE."
Edit: Never thought I'd post a writing prompt reply, but the lack of real prompt responses needs to be fixed. Let's pick it up, people

I really liked the prompt. Even though I'm getting a little tired of all the reddit drama the prompt is an interesting take on it.
