Well, the world is infinite, but the explorable world isn't. After a while of going in any direction, you reach the spirit world. The physical world, which encompasses all of the hospitable lands as well as the spirit world, is made up of a single driving force, that splits apart and recombines in various ways, to make everything. In the hospitable world, the force splits into four distinct forces, which combine together to form everything else. The reason modern tech isn't possible is because electricity doesn't work the same. It doesn't flow through just anything, and is quite partial to the air. It's a deviation on the same force that makes up the air. Any implications this might have on the world, itself, physics wise, is overpowered by the mystic force of hand-waving, since physics don't really exist, as we know them.
