EDIT: As long as you are somewhat tech savvy/can read, you should be fine to download. Just watch out for the adware they bundle with most programs.

True, but for some software, there is no alternative but sourceforge. The binaries for FLOSS software, KeePaas for instance, is hosted only on sourceforge. In such cases, you can verify the MD5/SHA256 checksums (in case they have it on the non-sourceforge site) and thus be assured. EDIT: Spotting SF's adware bundled binary is easy - it has that big SF icon that shows itself in the Windows explorer.

Sort of a necessary evil at this point :/

Such a shame, because I used to go to Sourceforge for pretty much everything. Now, I avoid it like the plague.
