The house was originally coal fired. I still have a coal chute ive screwed closed and a set of old beat to hell coal tools. Shovel and a rake thing. At some point single pipe boiler steam heating was installed. Which i currently still use.
My real question i guess is the size of that object. Its like 18" long and a good 4.5 " diameter. Its a reaaly large object to be any kind of home boiler or radiator. It would have to be a tank the size of a room. Maybe someone in the past brought it home from some industrial job or factory.

I guess the tank wouldn't Have to be huge. But the size and weight of the thing speaks to a pretty large machine. Its a big heavy object, and its old. It just speaks of a very large device whatever the thing was.
