Some people left reddit without realizing that they themselves are the problem.

I was gonna say the same thing as kiwibomb.

When I was first introduced to reddit (before coming here) I was told to try and avoid comments like 'this' or 'ditto' as they don't forward any type of debate. I think that might be why you were downvoated

I feel like no matter what I say I'm going to get downvoated, but here it goes.

/u/TheodoreKent doesn't provide all the evidence, but it was really obvious /u/MightyYetGentle was being brigaded (which isn't even a word). Someone or some group targeted his account and destroyed his +2500 CCP in a single night about a week ago. He even made multiple posts asking for help. I thought the guy was an intolerable asshole, but that shouldn't be part of the question. If he got organically downvoated by his peers that's one thing, but how is it possible that everyone just suddenly decided one night he needed every single comment downvoated into oblivion? He was always a complete ass. For at least 6 months, maybe longer. It didn't just suddenly happen, but the downvoating did.

No one should be happy about this. You can be happy he left, but don't be all right with how it happened. It's just one step closer to the same thing happening to you - happening to any of us. I really don't want to sound too dramatic, but I guess I'll end with the most ridiculous statement possible...

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Yeah that's right, I'm conflating this issue with the equivalent of "everyone who disagrees with me is Hitler". This comment is officially half sarcasm, but I'll let you all sort out which bits are which.

Thanks for making the post. When I first saw it last night, you seemed to just be eating tons of downvoats and I was genuinely sad that no one seemed to care. I'm happy that today people have shown up supported you on this.

It's a little depressing to know that even if you helped raise some more awareness, I don't think anything will actually come of it. And, not to disparage our glorious leaders, but I can't help feeling it should be fairly easy for @Atko or @Puttitout to do something about it.

They need to find a way to delegate some of the workload if they're just too busy. We have a lot of people on this site, many of whom would like nothing more than to help keep it functioning properly.

Brigaded is a word:

verb (used with object), brigaded, brigading.

  1. to form into a brigade.

  2. to group together.

legit to the max.

"I disagree with what you say but I'll defend to the death your right to say it."

Accepting that and acting on it takes maturity.

maybe /u/atko or /u/putitout could look into which accounts did this. not asking for them to tell us but maybe look into the situation and if indeed he did get brigaded maybe there is something that can be done. Maybe we need some special badges for people who abuse voat.

You don't get it, he deleted his own account. That's not censorship, that's a spineless twat feeling marginalized because no one wants to hear anything he says. When you post 90% vitriolic hate, don't be surprised when no-one cares to hear the other 10.

No mod or admin forced him. He posted, got downvoated, and then pussed out like a bitch. Voat IS better off without him here.

Downvoats are not censorship. Submission, comment, and account deletion by mods/admins is censorship.

We all have the right to freedom of speech, but no one has a responsibility to listen.

Downvoating shit to hide it purely because you don't like the person who posted it is petty childish bullshit. Oh, yeah, you attacked someone until they took their ball and went home; clearly they were a coward.

Maybe he shouldn't have been such a cunt then? No one censored him, he censored himself out of shame. Which is the act of a coward.

Society has always ostracized people who are poisonous to the community, no one kept him from speaking, they just showed how much they didn't care. He was like the village idiot no one listens to. So he left the village, welcome to society.

Mostly it is about vanquishing that unbearable feeling of feeling so stupid that you can't think of an intelligent resonse to something you disagree with. Pushing that down vote key must offer some sense of relief. No one feels comfortable being confronted by their stupidity and if down voting something helps drive that away I guess it works for them.

Yes, but going to any location in the public and saying even half the things that Mighty said would have negative social and possibly even legal consequences, welcome to reality.

Or do you need another safe space for you hurt feelings and marginalized ego?

Please look at the link I posted in my post. He certainly deserved a lot of down-votes, he had a tendency to say incredibly ignorant things. However, the guy was fucking brigaded. Nice, uplifting things he said were down-voted for no reason. Why the fuck would anyone down-vote this comment so heavily? In any case, the guy amassed over 2,500 CCP. After the down-vote brigade, it went negative, so he could't upvote, down-vote, and he had posting limitations. I dont know, seems pretty fucked to me.

Then... they weren't downvoted 'for no reason', they were downvoted because he had a tendency to say incredibly ignorant things? I get that there's a whole generation out there that don't like the idea of being held responsible for your actions, but that's kind of how things work. People remember the shit you did before and tossing a few compliments out into a shit pile doesn't make you a good person.

I downvoated him for everything he posted. I didn't go to his profile and mass downvoat or anything. But if I saw his posts they got downvoated regardless of content.

You talk about having a debate, did you ever look at Mighty's comment chains? Anytime anyone tried to debate him he jumped right into to calling people, trannies, fags, satanists, commie, and all sorts of nonsense. People would post whole paragraphs discussing an issue, and he would post something like:

Fuck off you commie fag!

He posted enough hateful shit for voat of all places to downvoat him into a sissy tantrum. The fact that he could nearly universally piss off voat while holding a conservative bias is in and of itself kind of impressively dickish.

I think you should look at how tolerant this site of alternative viewpoints 99% of the time, and realize this guy was just THAT MUCH of a massively vitriolic bastard.

Get out of here with all of your valid points, this man is a victim and your free speech to criticize him is not nearly as important as his free speech to bitch about niggers.

Brigading is bullshit, it shouldn't happen. But the guy was a total asshole, so I can't really sympathize. He posted a lot of stuff, with a good amount of upvoat fluff that didn't add anything, and he posted comments everywhere that were unpopular, getting into arguments with people and generally acting like a child.

The way he's left sucks but honestly good riddance, he wasn't a good contributor and all he did when it came time to discuss things was get defensive and insult people.

[–] TheodoreKent [S] 9 points 6 points (+15|-9) ago

My only problem is with the brigading. Everyone know that @mightyetgentle was kind of an asshole. But he had over 2,500 CCP around a week ago. Then, within a few days, it went negative. He could no longer upvote, or downvote, or in some cases, even post within a certain timeframe. The guy was a twat, but twats still deserve to have public opinions.

CCP is meaningless so having a lot doesn't actually mean anything.

To me this just sounds like a person wearing fancy clothes talking about all their money walking through a bad neighborhood being shocked and appalled when they get mugged. You can say that mugging is bad but at some point you have to admit maybe making yourself that much of a target over and over again was just stupid.

The guy was a dick to a lot of people near enough constantly, he probably earned 30 or so downvotes from me over the last few months. He was bound to annoy someone who can set up a brigade of bots or users to downvoat him eventually given his behavior.

He lost a lot of those CCP himself defending cops in some post. He kept making comment after comment and every comment was below -20 and he just kept making more. Not saying he wasn't getting unfair downvotes after that, but he lost a lot of CCP for idiotic comments.
