This is the kind of shit @Stoic pulled with his upvoat brigade sub /v/Disagreebutton. His credibility was destroyed and he left voat in a huff (and then had the stones to bitch about losing his credibility and respect all because the users didn't appreciate what he was doing). He's on reddit warning people not to come here either as far as I remember.

Why do you think he left Voat? Just because he said he did?

He left because of IRL problems. That's what he said in the AskVoat mod chat anyways. Or am I thinking of @shiny...? Nah, pretty sure it was Stoic.

Well said; I'm not an internet nomad. I mean I am, but I don't want to be. I've gotten so fed up with helping rebuild communities and forming new friendships, for unrelated reasons, that it's gotten to the point where: even though I like a lot of the voaters here, and even pop in the IRCs from time to time, I don't really bother making/pursuing real connections with people anymore. What's the point? It's all fleeting anyways, and we have no idea how long voat will be around.

In part, a lot of my apathy comes from Atko's. If he doesn't believe in the site enough to form a coherent, sustainable, monetization platform— to at the very least, ensure it'll stay around, why should my gamble on the site have any more chips than his?

But I'll be damned if it'll go down like reddit, infiltrated by the fucking thought police. I'm done with that; I refuse to be a part of the silent majority any longer. Time to do my username some justice. I'm gonna be handing out triggers like red cards in a soccer match. I've got the CCP to burn through... come at me, bitches.

Hopefully you've seen the most recent message posted today from Atko? Donations to the site can now be made via here:

Easy peasy. He does care.

Agreed.....the Thought Cops just destroyed meaningful thought and discussions at reddit. It is generally only useful for interesting pics at this time. Socialism killed reddit. Now reddit loves socialism. Small wonder.

yea I dont think they would really be able to kick off here. they can downvoat all they want but I dont think many people here care about meaningless internet points, and there are enough people here to upvoat things to keep discussions visible.

Holy shit.

Holy shit. This is upsetting.

Brigading is slippery fucking slope. How far of a leap is it from "protective upvoat brigading" to "proactive downvoat brigading"? I mean, if this group came into existence and had to run however many upvoat-brigades to counter some downvoat-brigades from (for example) ProtectVoat, then how long would it take for this new group to get fed up with the downvoat-brigades and then just run a massive downvoat-brigade, themselves? That way, they'd still be "serving their purpose" in terms of killing some "known brigaders".

Then, somewhere down the line, such a group becomes so massive that they can essentially out-brigade any other group on the site. And any time they get downvoated organically, they decide that it "had to be a brigade" and then they just destroy whosoever may disagree with their ideology.

At it's core essence, this "innocent idea" is just as volatile as SRS is/was, just as volatile as ProtectVoat allegedly is. This is a bad fucking idea, and should be completely shut out.

While it sounds romantic to "fight fire with fire", that isn't the greatest long-term solution. The principles upon which this new group would be founded upon are the same basic principles that any other brigading-oriented group are founded upon. And it is those groups that end up degrading sites like this.

Fuck. I just donated $125 to Voat a couple hours ago. I really don't want people like this to bring about the second apocalypse.

This is the comment. I'll link this for other posters who ask "so what?" Although, I will say, can you really name an instance where /v/protectvoat has made a serious error that had lasting effects? There is nothing wrong with protecting something good.

I missed your edit, and so only replied to part of your post. Posting this reply separately from the other, so you'll see it.

I cannot name any instance where /v/protectvoat has committed an error of any sort. The only reason I used their name in my example, was because the situation at hand is really between them and Xanthia's Shadow Cabal (for lack of a better name).

Honestly, I'm not subscribed to /v/protectvoat, nor am I familiar with any of the users or mods there, or with Xanthia, or with /u/PM_ME_YOUR_ARCHES. I was just lucky enough to see this post on my front page, and I decided that I wanted to be involved in the discussion. Really, I don't particularly have any friends or enemies on Voat - I just voat and comment on shit that I feel like voating and commenting on.

I hope this will serve as my disclaimer to all parties involved, should any of them see my comments!

EDIT: Fixed a mistake.

Thank you.

I really hope that people realize the importance of this. The future of Voat depends on it - literally. Plus, I don't know of any other site to migrate to if Voat should die. So, I have an awful lot invested in this site.

Yeah I can.

PV brigades /v/books. @kevdude post a sticky calling the mod a pedophile because he didn't understand the sub. That user/mod agreed to change the sidebar rules, but after the slander that @kevdude that user/mod left Voat.

Seriously...PV makes Voat worse.

You can't downvoat brigade on voat, dummy. They have a system to prevent that.

I accidentally deleted this comment when I came up twice. I deleted one and both were taken down.

That happens to me sometimes. It's not a double post; it just shows the same comment twice. Edit or upvoat one and it'll affect both. Refreshing the page gets rid of it.

Edit: HA!

This is why I suggested using graph theory to identify suspicious voting patterns among users. Not only would it identify alts if used for vote manipulation, it could highlight user cliques (whether brigading or simply organic tightly knit communities which have similar opinions).

Edit : link.

There are other techniques that might be appropriate too. I'll think about this over the next few days, if I get a chance.

engage in legit debate and discussion like normal human beings

That would be nice but it won't happen. People enjoy the anonymity and ability to downvoat (or upvoat) and move on.

Some highlights of the pastbin for those reading:

Let's just play the long game and see what happens.

All we need is for default mods to not fuck up for a month or two.

there are more reasonable voaters coming to the site.... we need to organize to pull them in....

"reasonable" @xanthia - does that mean like minded?

JJevil wasn't a default mod, neither is Henrycorp, nor Canpanther

Are you honestly blaming PV for JJ? JJ constantly antagonized everyone on the site by shitposting in v/whatever - does PV get blamed for everything on the site?

Canpanther was censoring comments and someone made a thread in PV. And?

Henrycorp stole a sub that had an active community, changed its focus, and started deleting comments/submissions and banning users. We are allowed to point shit like that out.

I will continue to pm voaters that I think maybe sympathetic to the cause because no single sub should dictate how other subs are moderated or what users are smeared, brigaded, and pushed off the site

No, a general bulletin board to alert the community to things is bad, but an organized group of users who silently upvote and downvote stuff according to their agenda is perfectly fine, right? /s

edit:

Is it best we stick to voat PM's or should we all talk somewhere we can be in one place (irc etc)? Can I pm the others to get the drift of things? also why dont we all tag each other with AVE?

HOLY SHIT. I hadn't even gotten to the third pastebin. Damn @xanthia

I don't buy it. I think you and PV are being trolled.

[–] kevdude 4 points 9 points (+13|-4) ago

Possibly. The fact is that everything they bring up is plausible and even if they are trolling it means that they are thinking about it.
