Yeah it's hard to be skeptical about stories that agree with one's worldview and easy for stories that don't.
Any thoughts on how to go about helping race relations? I think time will help but it's hard to know if racism is getting worse or if more racists are using the internet and being more visible. I'm inclined to think the latter, as internet use is available on phones/tablets and more culturally accepted than ever before.

Well, you have to be consistent. You have to help them help themselves. I will try my best not to sound racist here... the problem with blacks in America is a cultural problem. It has nothing to do with their race or their color explicitly, it has to do with their culture and how it has developed here in the US.
I really don't know how you would work to repair the culture. I think it will get worse before it gets better, but being racist about it will not help. Being racist will perpetuate the problem. If we can figure out how to better regulate or limit welfare, it'll be a step in the right direction.
