The struggle is real. About a year ago I realized how out of touch I was with current events.. I have tried to get caught up but will admit that I'm more confused than ever with all the shit floating around. Then I try and discuss things with people and end up getting beat down over something I don't even have a firm opinion on. Like dude, I feel you.. No one knows how to communicate anymore.

"No one knows how to communicate anymore."

Divide and conquer.

you probably werent out of touch with current events, just media events. People generally are oblivious to things happening around them and are "aware" of the narratives pushed on them by big media.

Can I join you?

Means you won't be alone, and my kids can be loud...

But I'm fairly handy and we can flip off the world together

Little bit of column A little bit of column B. Personally I only see literally everything as shitty if I'm going through a bout of depression. Normally only like 97% of things seem shitty :p.

I completely empathize with you. I would recommend watching the documentary "Century of the Self" if you haven't already. It's free on YouTube and it offers enormous insight into the quandary of modern human nature. I find that understanding the masses helps to feel less shitty about existence.

Don't worry, there are plenty of people like you who are awake, who see through bullshit, who care about facts and aren't afraid to change their opinions. It takes time and effort to find them, but they're there.

I had to make sure that this was a reference to Adam Curtis and not, in fact, a reference to some white supremacist recruitment video.

I try to remind myself a strong opinion is not a bias. But it gets frustrating when others have no wiggle room. Some communities are better than others, some days are better than others, and some times I need to just stop engaging with those I'll never see eye to eye with. They simply view the world differently.

I feel ya sometimes you just gotta withdraw from a conversation that won't go anywhere. I wish everyone had more of an open mind though.

Ya. But with this many people living different lives, the differences just get too extreme. Everyone has their zone of what's too far one way or another and we overlap in varied degrees. It's actually impressive we've been able to get on the same page this much.

The left and right will always stretch out to an extreme before snapping back.

I really have to agree. I don't understand the unwillingness to learn, evolve, admit you are wrong. Shoot, I even once went into researching something to prove someone wrong, realized the facts, and ended up agreeing with them.
I have my own views of course, but I realize they are not the only views. My life experience is different than someone else's and that has shaped them as mine have shaped me.
Sometime it's ok to say "I don't know". I don't know why we are like this or how to fix it, but I see it too. I see it and I feel overwhelmed. I know that's not a good state to be, but I feel overwhelmed is probably better than complacent.

What would you say is natural human nature compared to what it is now?
