I thought the y was essentially mostly a remnant or subset of an x. I did not suggest men are missing genes , more that there is redundancy in the event of deleterious mutations.
The Y is a decedent of the typical X chromosome but their departure from one another is as old as mamalia. They would be as genetically unique from one another as my X would be from a platypus's X. At least as I understand it.
