Or implement user-specified sorting. Sort by net score, sort only by upvotes, sort by total votes whether up or down, etc

Honestly I wish people would stop trying to drastically change the system. I came to Voat because I wanted Reddit's subcommunity system without Reddit's culture and admins. I understand the desire to improve the system, but the system isn't that bad, to be honest. I don't think you could introduce changes like removing upvoat/downvoats without making Voat a whole different site.

We're going to get cabals either way - I propose that Atko hand-picks default mod teams every 4 months (or as needed.)

  1. I'm back, bitch.

  2. That would probably be best, although that wouldn't happen.

Edit: can i get a reason as to why I'm being downvoated?

Voating them out is a bad idea.

But some form of accountability would be a good plan.

I think open modlogs go a long way to accountability as it is. A solid improvement without trying to reinvent the whole system.

The mod logs help a great deal. But they only make mods transparent. They don't make us accountable. People will know what we are up to, but there is nothing they can do about it.
I would like to see some way for the users to hold a mod responsible, or remove them. A vote would be bad, but some process may be possible to allow it without being open to abuse.

Just don't ask me what that 'process' would be. I don't know.

All organized systems can be gamed. Doesn't mean we shouldn't have organized systems, necessarily. Look at the US Constitution: that fucker's been gamed, but we're still playing and trying to improve.

Except or the fact it has been proven to work. Time and time again on both reddit and Voat.

What about having a combination of in-sub ccp/scp determining eligibility to vote within that sub? Sure it could still be gamed, but it would keep people who don't participate in a sub from voting.

Problem would be different cabals could brigade with alts to nullify votes of individuals they don't like. I think it would divide us all more, although it would be super fun to have to drum up both upvoat and downvoat brigades all the time.

Who is organizing brigades?

There is no "easy" solution to this problem, nor is there a single solution to this problem.

Exactly. It's a people problem, not a system problem. Voat has about as good a system as any. The only way to make it flawless would be to remove all the people.
