I'm happy that Voat is much more natural with its content. Nothing fake or impure. Just like healthful Nature's Way™ brand vitamin supplements. Just what nature delivers, in its purest form!

Edit- thanks for the gold kind stranger!

Really? Don't kid yourself. There's not as much hidden advertising but there's just as much propaganda masquerading as news and sensationalist and misleading headlines, only now it's a lot more right-wing. Right-wingers don't notice it for the same way lefties on reddit don't notice it--it appeals to what they want to believe.

Exactly.

Many are all to willing to discard reasonable skepticism when they encounter what they want to believe.

It's the same wherever you are.

You'll believe anything that makes you think you're right.

I don't know about that, oh there are definitely people posting out of context clips and spinned articles but at least on voat the bullshit gets called out by a decent chunk in the comments even when the majority agree with the politics of the post. I remember that used to happen on Reddit until the people calling out the BS started getting shadowbanned.

I don't think that people here ignore that, it's just that in this political climate no one gives a fuck about the right wingers, it's the leftists who have lost all moral and political compass and are trying all the nastiest things disguising them as genuine care about minorities and the oppressed.

Honestly I wonder if people will ever get the message... acting like a fascist is BAD, even when "your side" does it.

If you're acting like a fascist, than "your side" is fascist.

I noticed a long time ago the AMA subreddit just seemed like nothing but overt advertising and astro-turfed content. There is still original usermade content on reddit (ie polandball) but, I can't believe it's legal for them do advertising in the way they do without any transparency and blatantly framing it like it's real, organic stuff people are posting on their own volition. Also, I saw they were trying to integrate celebrities into reddit to have them casually comment/mention their plugs in threads like they are just normal users. That's fucking retarded. I don't understand why people eat that shit up.

Well, yes they do post a lot of "bern-made" comics, but there are redditor-made ones... But yeah, it did come from 4chan you are right about that.

It's even worse than that. I noticed a long time ago any time some big news hit the front page, the tools kick up the pun/kitten meme threads and then suddenly there'd be a Morgan Freeman or similar doing an AMA and sliding Snowden off the front page.

If you look at their front page now it's 99% crap 100% of the time and it's a "Safe Space" for period blood and so on.

This was kinda already debunked, the shirt was used in an episode from 2005.

I'm not sure they were calling out reddit specifically, but this season's timing could not have been more perfect. Think about it.. when this season started, none of these fake campus protests had even begun yet. As a viewer of SP from the beginning, it's been really entertaining to see how much it's grown in the last few years.

SP pushes out an episode in 7 days, they can be extreemly timely.

[–] OpenCommunity 0 points 3 points (+3|-0) ago

Yup, but the larger story arc was likely at least ambiguously defined before all of the latest brouhaha

Pretty crazy, especially considering how long it originally took them to make one episode, all by hand.

DAE in this thread see the irony here with how we're all talking about a television show?

[–] InnatelyAcidic 0 points 5 points (+5|-0) ago

I pirate that shit, so no. The unedited version of SP is reason enough to risk my isp potentially sending me a letter, telling me to stop being a bad boy. So much better hearing little kids say vile shit, like I did in my 4th grader days.

[–] casper 0 points 2 points (+2|-0) ago  (edited ago)

But you're still talking about it, and someone who does pay for cable is reading your commentary right now which means you are still doing their advertising for them.

I pirate tons of shit but SP gives you the episode unedited right on there website .. sure it plays 2 to 3 commercials but I respect how they do it

Any media that calls out or goes against the status quo is practically in its own category these days.

0
2

[–] casper 0 points 2 points (+2|-0) ago  (edited ago)

Except South Park is the status quo. All the shit South Park pokes fun at are mostly loud but unimportant marginalities and they always do so from the populist position. The SJW are a loud, but teensy tinsy in number. Scientologists and Mormons are a tiny number, and let's not even mention the individual celebrities they regularly roast. They never really pick any hard targets, because then it is not so funny anymore. The show is not some kind of iconoclast like they'd like you think it is. It's bread and circuses, just like everything else on TV.

[–] IAmYourDad 1 points 0 points (+1|-1) ago  (edited ago)

Yes and no.

In a way we are kinda doing advertisement for a TV show by talking about. But then the TV show is also mocking the fact that sites like the Gawker network are using some kind of algorithm to feed you ad.

I am glad they are exposing these issues and I hope they bring awareness (you PC bro?) to the people like they did with that Scientology episode.
