I always hated that Reddit frequently changed its logo, obviously taking a play from Google with their Google Doodle. I didn't find it charming or cute, and I fail to understand how changing the logo to try and show solidarity with the crisis-du-jour helps in any way. To me, I always felt that when Reddit changed their logo it was nothing more than a sign that its owners wanted to appear to be conscientious, and probably felt smug and self-important when they did it. It's exactly the kind of shallow display of faux virtue you'd expect from a Bay Area company.
Can we just keep our logo the logo of the site, and let the actual content be the thing to express solidarity and compassion?
In that vein, if the owners really want to encourage real action, can we just put up a frontpage sticky to a French charity/relief instead? For example:
(Of course, make sure the charity isn't one of the innumerable ones dedicated to helping refugees, or Voat will become a shitstorm.)

Why not both? All those countries coloring their buildings with the French flag colors doesn't do anything to actually help, but it still sends a message that resonates with people.

Lighting a building up a different color is a pretty big undertaking. Changing a logo is like wearing a Lance Armstrong bracelet. Plus it just feels more cynical on the Internet, like people who see some Google Doodle of starving Ethiopian kids and go "wow, yeah, that's really important," then go about their day. It's like a little dose of meaningless, false catharsis.
