Basically, people don't want voat to look like tumblr.

I'll give you an insider look into me, a person who finds utility in such comments. Basically, I am a huge stoic. I even read The Enchiridion. I don't like tumblr. However, a year ago I used to go on tumblr. I swallowed it whole, letting the hedonism of my emotions be my compass as I reblogged photo after photo. About 3 months ago, I deleted my tumblr because I was sick of seeing that shit and living life always on edge, always feeling a raw throb of egocentrism. I realized I hated it, or that at least I have wasted a lot of time giving too much resources to this silly thing we call emotions. I thought I had to be happy, but eventually I realized life is not an act of happiness, life is an act of labor and the sooner I buckle down and realize that then I will get to deal with it in a more powerful way.

So, whenever I see shit like this, just jacking off to emotions, smothering yourself in vacant half-truths where the vacancy it leaves you with is the punch-line, I seriously think "god damn this shit is so stupid" not verbatim, but it's the difference between taking these posts seriously which, honestly, I would rather not.

And, when people say things that are so rough in response to such things, I find myself a bit glad. Why? Because, they're telling the damn truth in a shaky way. Of course, you must understand this: I don't mean they are telling the truth that you are a faggot, that you suck. Sure, you might suck, but that's not what drives people, or at least not me, to say such things. If I say something rude online, which I do occasionally and I don't know why, it is usually an ideological thing. It's not about painting you ugly, it's about painting the ideas that you are perpetrating. And then, one can argue that the perpetrator is the idea, for with no perpetrator, there is no idea, there is no knower. So basically, people are attacking you, and I feel good about it because it means your idea gets shut down.

The reason it makes me feel good a bit is because I know what these kind of ideas can lead to. Whatever you do, don't get to the point where you are putting a grocery bag over your head and taking sleeping pills because you absolutely emasculated yourself to the point where you think you can't do a damn thing about your situation. The way I see it, these people helped me, those that called me faggot not to put me down, but because what I was doing was a waste of time that cost me. The waste of time part is something, but the fact that it costs you is something I can testify of.

Tl;dr: people call you faggot, sometimes it's because what you're perpetrating is a waste of resources and they dealt with it in a harsh way.

I guess it's not feeling emotions that's bad, it's letting them determine your decisions.

You can like whatever food you want, but if you get morbidly obese, yes we'll have contempt for you. You can enjoy whatever art form you want, but if you just sit around all day not doing anything else, not contributing to society, we won't respect that. A lot of us came from Reddit where we could see what it looks like when you let a place get run completely by feelings.

Sometimes opinions are fucking stupid. Sometimes those dumbass opinions are your opinions. Sometimes you express dumbass opinions online. Sometimes those opinions are enough to have a mob call you a faggot. Sometimes you totally deserve to be called a faggot.

Expressing intense emotions in an engaging, genuine and non-corny way is a problem that writers and artists have faced for as long as there has been literature and art. Shakespeare is notable in this department: he really does get complicated and intense emotions across in a beautiful way. That's why he's still famous four hundred years on.

The trouble is many attempts are just corny and crap. Sickly, cloying, cliché-filled purple prose is a big turn off and generally seen as a failure on the part of the creator. Therefore, to be seen cheering for it is setting oneself up for ridicule.

And by taking a great scene out of context, it can lose a lot of its power and become just another silly facile trope. In its place in the film a scene may be a marvel of cinematography, something that touches the soul, but in a gif it becomes a well-worn cliché (rain and sadness) that can easily been construed as a limp attempt at conveying emotion.

The most common defense mechanism is projection. When you understand that as a fundamental ailment people make more sense.

Go fuck yourself.

Just kidding...well, kind of. Look, people everywhere will shit on you for liking what you do. That's why most of us are here in the first place. If you like it, fine, but other people don't, and also feel like being a dick. They have every right, despite what we're all told to believe nowadays.

In short, grow a backbone and be proud of what you like.

words only have as much power as you give them

once you accept that you are the faggot, the world cannot hurt you with the word "faggot" :3
