My biggest complaint is that Voat appears to be transforming into the "conservative" version of reddit. I'm interested in a reddit alternative that isn't centered around an anti-sjw and fat shaming core community. Comments and posts are downvoted because people disagree, and very often because the offending opinion articulated is left on the political spectrum.

Participation in the way of original content appears sluggish. And, frankly, I regret to say that I have a harder time finding well thought out and detailed comments that are informed and correct on this site, at least at the moment.

I will continue to post and comment here in hopes that we acquire a more diverse base of subscribers.

I'd have to agree with you. Fuck. At this point it's just tribe vs tribe bullshit. I came here for the experience of civilized discussion, to fucking talk to fellow human beings who live in 2015 and can send ships to any planet they want, who can entangle particles, who can 3D print bio-technology, who can access the entirety of their collective knowledge and communicate new ideas by tapping a piece of goddamned glass they carry in their goddamned pockets...not to fucking fling poo.

I highly doubt that most of the working population actually know what a SJW is or would say they are being affected by them negatively.

Until 2008 much of the working population didn't know what a derivative or an MBS was, or how they were being negatively affected by them.

I'm not one of the coontown / pol refugees that ended up here, but the reason I left reddit was that it was getting difficult to have intelligent conversations about anything political or newsworthy without being attacked or banned. I got banned from /r/politics for criticizing Obama for supporting the NSA (something that had been extremely commonplace on that sub, even though it was a bastion of liberalism). When they started banning subreddits en masse, I knew it was over.

So no, I think a lot of the coontown idiots are pains in the ass and I disagree with them, but every time I see them I remember that at least I'm somewhere I can speak my mind without fear of reprisal.

I concur. I am curious to see what Voat will evolve into once it goes through it's adolescent growing pains.

This place needs ads then. At least in the sidebar.

More like: Powerful people conspired to destroy a place that they can't control.

Many of us would be happily donating through PayPal, but can't because someone of some influence blocked Atko's PayPal account.

A wild assertion co-opted by the hivemind, no substance, just enjoy your voat in your own way.

It could be catastrophic thinking, an easy mental habit to develop.

I wish there was a way everybody using voat handled some part of the traffic, and so the whole server costs thing would be evenly spread between everyone for about 0.01 cents a months in electricity.

A distributed platform, like Aether?

The site is awash with racists, there seem to be a lot (or maybe just a few very vocal) users obsessed with "SJW"s, the sources being posted are often highly biased if not outright suspect, submission titles are regularly edited to push agendas (or as I saw today completely mislabeled) and on top of all those userbase problems it seems like the site owner is losing interest.

Doesn't really look like it is dying. I think some people are also referring to the reddit invasion and their perspective of the lower quality of posts and comments. I think that view is usually from people getting hurt that their comments aren't being heard. Sometimes vapid, funny comments get upvoated but that is OK to me. They usually are funny and break some tension. To me the beauty of the voting system is the most interesting stuff (as deemed by the voters) automatically rises to the top. The bad stuff automatically gets voted down. I understand that my view of what is good and bad wont 100% agree with the mass voters and that is OK with me--but it is never 100% wrong either or for the most part even 20 or 10%.
