While it was certainly popular, I think it was only on the rock stations, which was a small percentage of total lisners. This one is played over and over on all the major pop stations like NY's Z100 that all the impressionable kids listen to. It just irks me that they're actively promoting "drugs are cool" mentality with this. Drug additcion is ugly. I have a number of recovering friends and also lost a couple to it.

Well, considering that I haven't heard of it until now, Mrs. Streisand...

I also think you're underestimating the popularity of "alt rock" radio during the second half of the 90s. Plenty of kids were listening to that. The lyrics of the song you're talking about don't even mention cocaine by name. "Lit Up" is blatant about it. Kids were running around singing, "I love the cocaine, I love the cocaine" for months back then.

Good thing "I'm in love with the coco" never hit #1, you would have lost your shit. (or "Brick in yo face" for that matter)

Not trying to give you a hard time, but.. it doesn't seem like that big of a deal... considering.

Also: it's the hot 100, which is just singles... 1 Direction will likely take over that spot next week.
