The last few years I felt like I couldn’t even get drunk anymore. I mean I could get technically drunk. But I wasn’t able to really feel the pleasure of it. It was like I was out of joy. I was just doing it for that stress relief I got downing that first beer.

Thing is, the stress went away when I stopped drinking.

Ask yourself if that flavor isn’t the dopamine hit your brain gives you when you give it what it wants. I had a similar experience with quitting cigarettes. The shit doesn’t taste good unless you have an addiction to it.

Yeah, weird how are brains can cause us self harm besides trying to get us better by eating healthy, getting enough sleep and exercising. The longer you do those the better your mind becomes.

Our pleasure centers developed to encourage us to do those healthy things that help us survive— eating, sex, exercise, socializing, showing affection. Drugs hack that pleasure system. They trick you in to feeling like you’re doing something good for you. They release the same chemicals involved in several healthy activities. Your brain can’t tell the difference. Drugs feel like love, food, sex. Its totally insidious.
