In reality it's about meeting the needs of the infant, and not using it to meet your needs. If you do the latter you'll warp it and it will be unable to handle its own needs later in life.

Definitely you can't be a pushover parent. If you model not standing up for yourself, your kid don't learn it either. They'll only learn to get their needs met by being a whiny bitch that complains about others all the time to get their way. You just can't be intimidated bu a child as apparently lots of parents are. Parents can get so offended at a child for wanting things. These parents never got themselves together.
