right. that's why it's called trivia. for example: memorizing all of the state capitals is trivia, not intelligence.
having said that, it's good to memorize trivia. it exercises the brain. i like trivia questions, sports stats, etc.

University is now loaded with useless exercises. For example many of the students can tell you all about the pedal mechanism, the chain, how gears work, the composition of the frame, among other things. But, they have never actually ridden or worked on a bicycle.
