I've said it before I don't hate black people and I'm not rich, but I am comfortable. So I will grab a $5 pack of frozen meals from Aldi's as something for anyone in our department to grab for lunch when they forget theirs or can't\don't want to spend money on eating out. For me it's a rounding error and for the guy who needs it, it's the difference between eating lunch and being miserable for half the day.

The idea of doing this never even occurred to me until we hired the black (half black?) guy for our department. They can say what ever they want about my "subconscious racism" but the fact of the matter is that this guy is such a train wreck that I'm pretty sure I'm one of the few reasons he's still alive. Perfect example, one of the first conversations he had with me, he had been working with use for like 3 months at this point, was something along the lines of:

Black Guy: "Hey Geek, do you think (name of remote office) needs an IT guy? Maybe I could move out there and work with them."

Me: "Are you asking me if you should move across the country to a city that you have no friends or family support in to perform a job that you are just starting to learn and don't quite have the hang of yet? Is this so you can get away from (Name of Second Baby Momma)?".

BG: "Yeah, well you know that way she won't bother me anymore and it will be that much harder for her to keep taking me to court for things. And you know, the city seems pretty cool out there"

Me: <Setting aside feelings of personal responsibility and not even beginning to think about the logical fallacy that this would somehow exempt him from child support payments> "Let's stop and thing about this" <Conversation about relative costs of living between the two cities, moving costs, his realistic earning potential away from his current role in the likely event that it doesn't work out and he has to seek work elsewhere, additional costs of rolling back on a move like this etc.>

And I was barely able to convince him it was a bad idea. He was so fired up about it that he contacted our HR department before he spoke to me. P.S. they loved the idea because they can't hire anyone at the price point an office of that size would justify, but he told them that he could move there at his current rate which would have put him well below the poverty line for that city. So THAT was fucking fun to to explain to them that he wouldn't be doing it.

You should have encouraged him to move. Never interfere when your enemy is making a mistake.

Someone has to be a threat before I'd consider them an enemy. This guy isn't even a functional adult. Yes, from the perspective of having nothing to lose he might be considered dangerous; but that's more so to himself then to me. I'm smarter, more capable and better looking in the company, I'm stronger and more intelligent then him. He's two inches taller than me, but also morbidly obese and has no formal training in fighting. I'm also more prone to violence then your average person (that's getting to be kind of a problem to be honest). So no, he's not my enemy here.

The guy was actually shocked when he found out that the Section 8 housing that he had been waiting on for 2 years was full of crackheads and reprobates. He was complaining about how he did the walk through and the walls were really thin, he could hear the neighbors above him walking around (in an apartment building mind you) people leaving their trash in the hallways. I have no idea what the fuck he was expecting.
