smoking makes it harder to get any airborne disease because when your lungs are irritated they create a mucus layer to protect the lowest lung area where the blood barrier is. earth has always had fires and smoke and other airborne toxins so of course we have lungs designed to deal with that issue. Italy, Spain, and France had studies months ago showing extremely low rates of coronavirus in smokers, something like 5% of the expected sample.

many smokers have what is called co-factors, meaning they're extremely unhealthy in general and they just happen to also smoke. the most common one is being a drunk. drinking is responsible for far more health problems than most people would ever believe.

i also highly suspect that the brands (and their various additives) make a lot of difference. you've never seen a study on smoking that compared rates of various issues with the brands smoked, but any smoker can tell you there is a difference between brands.
