It became a show trial from day one. They had to try them under piracy laws. Which is obviously bullshit.

I remember reading about one officer who confessed to working at a camp with a made up name that did not exist.

Just be careful, because this is also how they make all the confessions re: blood libel 'lack credibility' as they were 'coerced'.
