He was a collaborator, but wasn't a part of the SS (being a jew, and all). He was involved in removing wealth from other jews, and enriched himself in the process. That's what he called "the best time of his life" - going full jew and jewing other jews out of their money. And he justified it by saying that it was going to be done anyway, so he might as well help out and get something out of it.

I agree with you. No need to embellish things. 'He wasn't just a collaborator, he was in the Nazi party. In fact, he was even in the SS, and he worked not only for Hitler himself, but Himmler, too! I heard he laid the train tracks to Auschwitz by hand.'
