This isn't something they would oppose philosophically. It's something they'd oppose practically because it would directly harm them. It's a divide and conquer gambit. Everything named after New York would be ideologically tainted, but the established names would be too valuable to toss.
So almost all the left would be pushing to change it, while the people invested into the name would try to pump the breaks. It's the kind of brand damage that a company would buy a established smaller brand to rebrand itself with.
