I wish they'd quit pretending this was real.

Yes, there was/is a virus ; yes, people have died from it (80% of them being the people that usually die from the flu : The elderly and people with pre existing conditions). Covid 19 has a 0.5 % fatality rate, FFS.

The obscene over reaction was meant to get the people used to losing their freedom of movement and of association, and in the USA , to hurt Trump's reelection chances.

The obscene UNDER reaction to the Burn Loot Murder protests, arson, and riots show that there never was a justification for ANY of this bullshit-pure Safety Theater, at best-and it's past time to quietly shelve masks and "social distancing", at least in the sense of requiring them for admission to places. Re open everything and hope for the best, because still having these measures in place (especially having some states still shut down) is a slap in the face to everyone who has eyes, and an insult to our intelligence.

Way less than that. 0.5% would be significant, that'd be 1 in every 200 people. It's only as high as 0.5% because their testing is restricted to seriously ill people.

Good point. This is a nasty strain with horrible symptoms, judging by what I've read online from recovered suffers' accounts, but it never was the return of the bubonic plague, and the extreme overreaction could only be justified if it was. Never attribute to malice what could be caused by mere stupidity and incompetence , but it's hard not to see the lockdowns as anything but a deliberate conspiracy.

to hurt Trump's reelection chances.

I would believe this had Trump not participated in it. It looks like a bi-partisan election year hoax.

No. President Trump had to respond the way he did. Look how they are still trying to pin all the deaths on him even after he did exactly what the "experts" said he needed to do, and then some. It was a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation for him.
