So I wrote this as a comment in another thread, but I felt like making a whole post about it.
Ever been to a "touristy" part of SE Asia or India?
In a lot of these places you will find a variety of Monkeys and other lesser apes. Usually macaques and Langurs.
To the white tourists meeting these monkeys can be exciting and novel. maybe they have never seen a wild monkey before.
They will offer them snacks and sweet drinks and laugh at how "human" they look. They can be cute.
But,
To the locals they are an absolute menace. They are fed so well by scraps, unguarded trash cans and misguided tourists that they breed out of control. They have no fear of humans and they become extremely aggressive.
The thing is, despite what the dumb white tourists think, the monkeys are not grateful for the handouts, but they sure as hell get pissed if the food is not forthcoming.
Interestingly, In a lot of these places, especially Thailand, areas that used to have huge numbers of dumb white tourists have become empty due to coronavirus. Because of that, the Gibs have dried up and the monkeys are rioting.
Look Familiar?
I think a larger study can be made of this.

Yeah, I went to a monkey temple in Thailand in a tour. Monkeys were very aggressive for gibs. Everyone was passive and smiling nervously, trying to get along with these vermin. I was scowling and growling and trying to attack the useless primates, and they began to avoid me. Was ready and willing to hurt them and they could tell. It was a very familiar scene.

That's exactly how you should handle the situation. Personally I'd like to interact with them wearing full contact sports gear, including face mask and full body armor, like a hockey player or downhill mountain biker. Impervious.
Come at me you little fucking simian fucks. I'll break your fucking neck and you won't do shit to me bitch. Fuck aggressive primates of all types.
