That building is like looking at something built by someone who wants to create something beautiful and is manifestly told they can't. But they can't help themselves. It's an incredibly sad structure, showing that, at that point, the strive for beauty had not been completely snuffed out of the Russian people by the invading horde. An inflection point, if you will.

Profoundly sad.

You are right about it being created by someone who wants to build something beautiful. I read a book about Soviet bus stops (weird topic, I know), and it was one of the few areas where artists where allowed some freedom. Often they would craft the stops out of concrete, but it would be shaped so as to reflect local architecture, or a landmark. Seeing how the Russian architects had to beg their (((bolshevik))) masters just to paint a bus stop was disheartening. Hopefully the Russians can bring back their orthodox style.

Look up the Four Olds that Communists worked to destroy during the cultural revolution. This stuff is all done purposefully to reshape society. Basically, the Jews are upset that followers of Jesus conquered the world and want to destroy all of that history.
