I think there's a lot of emotional arguments that go on between both sides in the global warming debate. One of these, imo, is the push from the global warming community to address the problems of oil consumption by mandating increased energy efficiency for things like cars. This carries with it the underlying assumption that doing so will save oil and help prevent global warming.
Unfortunately, it was recognized over a 150 years ago by William Jevons that increasing efficiency can actually increase consumption.
One simple way that I would explain it is that if a product, such as oil, is so expensive that it is only used in specific circumstances such as airplane travel and cars for rich people, then it would have limited use and people would try not to waste it. But if the price drops drastically, not only does travel benefit, but other uses for the product can become more profitable and accessible, such as heating, plastics, travel for the masses, etc.
So now instead of uses horses to plow your field, using a tractor becomes cost effective. Instead of using natural fertilizer, petroleum based fertilizers are cheaper so you use those. Instead of using expensive natural fibers in clothes, you can use plastic, allowing people to buy cheaper clothes. And instead of driving a sedan, you can drive an SUV. So this lets us consume more for the same level of effort and/or more people reproduce than otherwise could have.
I'm not really anti-global warming, but I think using it to push for an NWO and making emotional arguments is a dumb thing when there's an agenda being pushed on the entire world. Instead we could be doing something useful with that effort, like preventing the third world from trashing the oceans and their land. I just think this never ending drive towards efficiency, while by no means futile or meaningless from a business standpoint, is not going to accomplish a decrease in pollution like people simplistically think it will.
Here's some articles that discuss it:
