Archived In a theoretical situation what would be the best method to put plate armor on a civilian vehicle? (whatever)
submitted 10 months ago by aliensdrivemercedes
Would welding or or bolting the plates be more effective? is there a thickness/weight limit for both methods? Lets say a .75 inch steel plate was added to a car what kind of projectiles can it defend against?

Spot welds can be very strong if done appropriately.

Seam welding. Armour plating will protect you from a .5" round but not an armour piercing .5" round.
The best stuff is composite armour but as to where you could get that.....?

Would a steel plate with kevlar and ceramic layers be decent alternative?
No. It's hard to make a car bullet proof, weight increases which reduces vehicle performance.

At that thickness would the visibility be severely reduced/distorted?
