And that's why she's 95 and in a hospital room alone talking to a stranger.

As angry as this lie of a story makes me, it also leaves a sad, empty feeling within me.
Imagine being 95, and the only people you have around you to pass on your wisdom and life experience are absolute strangers who wouldn't piss on you to put out a fire, unless they were being paid.
Being 95, bed-ridden and dying of old age, surrounded by your children, grandchildren, and perhaps even a few very young great-grandchildren- all of whom adore you and do their best to make your final days comfortable and happy, while expecting nothing in return (besides the love and care you've provided them for your entire life). Sounds much worse than literally begging to offer a strange 30 year old woman (who is being paid to deal with you) your wisdom, doesn't it?

Last year a ladder collapsed on me(68) and fell and fractured my hip.. My worrier wife(71) took me to the ER, got me admitted and scheduled for surgery the next day, then went home and had a heart attack. I was in the hospital for 6 days, my wife was transported to a different hospital 30 miles away and was there for 8 days. One granddaughter came to my room after school (college) everyday, and the other granddaughter did the same for my wife. I don't talk much, but it was nice to have her there.
