a state militia is an oxymoron. Militias by definition are non paid, unprofessional soldiers. If youre required to register and work under the command of a government you are no longer a militia. The militia portion of the 2nd amendment exists to protect gun owners rights to organize and train in independent groups. It goes further to unnecessarily add that militias are necessary to the security of a free State. Learn a fucking word educators.

Yeah, I used to be confused about how rag-tag bands could win wars vs much stronger powers. Now, not so much.

The militia part of the 2nd also protects individuals not associated with any group. They are still potential future militia members.

If the call for a militia goes out in a time of crisis, you want citizenry able to take up the fight/enforce security who are familiar with the weapons which they must use immediately in the emergency- you can't pause and train when it is time to fight.

Would be super handy if they could bring their own guns and ammo too.

unprofessional soldiers.

That's the only point I would argue is up for debate with your comment. They still encourage people to train up with military tactics or at least thats what I gathered from the term "regulated civilian militia"
