Good one. lol - But the vast majority of people live modern lifestyles, so there is no point. It's all entirely corrupt, right down to factories, financial systems, and basic non-self reliance. Short of another great flood, a pandemic that wipes out all but a few isolated settlements is our only hope.
It's true that you say that it's not very hopeful. It doesn't change the fact that I'm correct. I can't force others, but I live that way myself.
It's not easy, but it is what is necessary. If a person watches a gillette commercial for example and then buys their product, it is demoralizing. I now have decided to sport a beard. I don't watch Faux News anymore. I don't use Farcebook anymore. I don't use a smartphone anymore. I don't use Netflix anymore. I have checked out of my job and eliminated my expenses down to very little. I took almost all of my money out of my bank account, essentially fucking them over. I have tuned into my neighbors and while offering help (and they often return it, reducing my expenses of services) we build bridges and real connections.
Two of my friends who made fun of me for doing this a year ago now have the pleasure of having to move back into their parents place because they can't get their expenses in order and lost their jobs because they trained their illegal immigrant replacements thinking it was a promotion. They told me they can't get rid of Netflix because they need it for their kids. I can't stop drug addicts from using drugs, but I can at least not partake in the drugs myself. Maybe they'll hit rock bottom and want help, and I won't be able to even save myself if I participate.
The one bright spot is that we've stripped most of the easy to reach resources, so exponential growth is unlikely next time.
Exponential growth isn't the goal. Read Agenda 21 and 2030 (I suspect you already know). The end goal is technical enslavement in smart cities, followed by despotic communism for those not in the elite circles, followed by extermination, followed by further enslavement of the stronger survivors.
But yeah, I can see how having those great modern services is worth all that. I dunno, maybe I'm special to see it ... or crazy. Meanwhile, I'm eating, off alcohol, off all drugs and for now doing better than those around me. I've even woken a few neighbors up.
The bugaloo isn't coming like people think, our nature makes us addicted to sugar and it's very likely people will just whittle down to nothing wondering why "the government" won't step in and help them.
People not doing the hard thing will ensure collapse. I don't think many will, as you state. But those who do the hard thing might have a chance to survive through a collapse.
So, please note that I am mostly agreeing with your assessment, but am re-affirming what I see as the morality required (as hard as it is) to survive. In the protocols they say they will enslave everyone with gold and that virtue is not a strong motivator. They are not universally correct. Some of us will wake up and realize money is just an abstraction of virtue ... and realizing the end goal is to take it away, why bother letting them have more power to make some of it.
