The tradition of going to church with our neighbors provided an important role in turning a neighborhood into a community.

I don't even disagree with taking a few steps away from religion, but we have to create something to fill that role otherwise the community dies. I can't think of anything that's even come close to filling those shoes.

Fully agree. My family and I walk to the local church, where our children attended preschool, 2 or 3 times a month. We're not super religious, but it ties us to the community.
