I believe it's closer to 50% of all violent crime, but these stats are notoriously hard to find.

Yeah, I did that intentionally. There is a lot of non-violent crime, for which police can use a lot more discretion as to whether to make an arrest or just give a warning. For example, drug possession. One could argue that white kids caught with a small amount of drugs are more likely to get off with a warning than black kids. This would skew the crime figures. Violent crime is more serious and it is not as open to as much discretion. This makes violent crime figures inherently more accurate.
