compassion. People who want animals, new or old, normally have compassion. Rescuing a used dog saves it from a certain death. Humans who breed simply want something soft and cuddly, which is what a dog is and, unlike a child, remains. So...rescuing a used dog is a win-win. An animal is saved and two otherwise breeders get something cuddly and a new consumer isn't introduced to an overpopulated world.

Sorry but this is complete horse shit. How about a future for the family, a legacy? A fucking pet isn’t a substitute for having children.

So why not adopt a child then?

Yes, adopting a child would be equally as noble as adopting a non-human animal. I can't see why so many people have their own kids instead of adopting some. A child is a child in my books. So having your own must come down to ego and gooeyness.
