I agree white privilege is a bankrupt concept, but while this quote is slightly related, it is not analogous. This is important because we don't earn our whiteness.
It is seemingly analogous because the idea of privilege is that you get get benefits without earning them. The idea of luck is that you get a benefit without earning it.
But the two concepts are actually almost opposite ideas. Privilege is a systemic matter. It only makes sense if there are immutable rules. You have privilege because that is how the universe works.
Luck is the opposite. The universe works according to random principles. If one is lucky that is a magical ability to beat the odds of a random universe.
Though the end result may be the same, the guiding philosophy is completely different. In truth hard work and ability is what allows one to succeed in both views. And that is all anyone can control.
