I will have to disagree. My advice is how I learned about gun safety.

Also scaring a child age 4 by shooting a loud gun does NOT create a liberal. Shooting a gun to scare them is no different than yelling at them when they touch a hot stove, does that make them a liberal? No.

It’s a silly argument. When they are young it’s important to instil fear on things they don’t understand like guns and plug ins.

Then when they are a few years older you sit down and explain why you did what you did and show them how to shoot.

We were shown they kill,

That’s literally what my advice is.

His showing us they kill was to learn the seriousness, not become scared. We were never scared of guns, we respected guns.

It's the difference between being scolded for for pulling a dog's tail and being made to fear all dogs.

I feel learning respect for what your parents say is a better tactic than relying on fear.

I've been at this father thing for over a month!

I understand you’re a father now, and I also believe you are over thinking this.

My guess is you were taught to respect guns at an age where you could understand what they are under 3 year olds don’t understand why hot stoves and electrical sockets are dangerous. You can logic with under 3 year olds you have to instill fear in them till they are old enough to understand why.

This logic applies to guns. It’s absolurely silly to think that bringing a 3 year old to a gun range is going to turn them into a liberal (they are THREE years old!!!) they will have a healthy respect for guns.

And what is the root emotion in “respect”?

It’s fear 1st and knowledge 2nd. Since little kids don’t logic they can’t comprehend “respect” so you have to use fear.

This isnt controversial and my advice is the best advice short of locking guns away in safes...which would be bad advice
