Voat is all things considered fairly robust thanks to the 4 consecutive years of constant attacks that highlighted where things could be improved. So anyone with the technical skills to take it down would surely know that taking down a single topic on a site would be impossible without taking down the whole site. And that the targeted topic would light up like a beacon as a result of it.
What I'm getting at, was it as decoy? I've only superficially skimmed the PizzaGate topic in question, but I didn't see an obvious nuclear bomb in it..
It could of course also be that the perpetrators indeed was targeting that specific topic but didn't plan out on Putt pointing towards it..
I dunno I'm just thinking out loud here.

The other possibility is that the people with the technical skills aren't the ones calling the shots. They just get handed a target and instructions and giving their bosses advice about streisand effects isn't welcome.

During my time in government, the people calling the shots were not the people who knew how the computers worked.
I suspect very little has changed.

Yup - that's the place I remember:)

It is a possibility. What Zestyclose_Marketing said is also a possibility. It is also a possibility that the people who targeted that specific thread aren't actually that smart. We have no way of truly knowing.

Link or quick recap?
Anyway my rationally is that we have previously had script kiddies trying to attack Voat with roughly the same impact as when /pol/ raided us. No one even noticed. So for someone taking us down for +12 hours they would surely be in a different league. They would absolutely know what traces of their destruction they left behind.
Again I dunno, but there's just something about it that feels off to me..

yeah, i say "red herring". I read the thread putt linked, but nothing stands out as some great revelation. it was likely just a probe to see how much trouble they could cause the site. expect more as the US 2020 election ramps up, especially regarding Epstein news.

Or was it someone on our side trying to make it seem that thread was under attack to shine more light on pizzagate and get the autistic interested in it again?
Lots of possibilities here.
[–] slickleg64 0 points 1 point 1 point (+1|-0) ago
Who spend time and resources just to do that though? Especially when there is a good chance that PG will become a hot topic around next election, also, a lot of pizzagate autists became Qtards who would rather sit around and "trust the plan".

You're probably right, the Q-larp almost sucked me in but I saw through it pretty quick and I sure as hell wasn't giving up on PG.
I was researching pedos, satanists and shit like MK Ultra/Monarch long before PG came around, people like Nicole Kidman's dad Antony Kidman was a satanic pedo who liked to hunt and murder children and he worked on MK Ultra. They get off on the fear and it really goes deep and world wide, very sick stuff, so sick that most normies won't believe it even if it does get exposed.

Assuming Putt has not been assasinated yet and replaced with a CIA shill in his place
[–] fightknightHERO 0 points 2 points 2 points (+2|-0) ago
if that was the case voat would be shut down and we'll never hear from it again
[–] Eualos 0 points 4 points 4 points (+4|-0) ago
They'd probably rather keep tabs than have us disperse with no centralized location.

good thinking!

Correct. There's no way that post was the reason for the DDOS attack.
