It's important to understand your enemies. So I tried thinking about how they can sexualize children.
Yeah no, I saw 10 year old while walking down the sidewalk and all I could garner is visceral anger that someone could take advantage of a little kid. There's absolutely nothing sexually attractive about kids. I just don't get it. I understand that people have kinks and fetishes, everyone does. And I can understand why people may have those desires, BDSM, pissing and scat, feet, dressing up, whatever, I can understand.
But I literally cannot comprehend the attraction to children. Like, I just don't get it. I'm starting to wonder how it happens, like what triggers the desires, something has to be causing it. Is it genetic? Learned maybe, many abused become abusers, but not always, and not all abusers were abused.
I just don't get it. That's good for my conscience, personally, but I failed to understand pedophiles.
Why understand? You must know your enemies to destroy them. There's a reason many security experts used to be robbers and computer hackers.

How do you understand the scat fetish? Did you put yourself in their place?

I firmly believe that most adult pedophiles had been groomed into the insanity.
When I see children now I look for the thousand yard stare to predict future (if not present) baby fuckers. I seriously blame the parents.

It's all about power. Look at the start of the #MeToo movement, all the accused had/have one thing in common over the accuser(s) - power to make or break them.

I suggest getting past your anger. Try to see them as self-interested people. Sick, narcissistic people. Most of them probably victims themselves. Doesn't absolve them for their actions, but puts them in a human light.

This is like saying I tried to think like A mentally ill person. Unless you are mentally ill I don’t think you can replicate that thought process in a normal and mentally healthy stable human being.

I think, like rape, it's a lot to do with power and control, the "taboo" of being a pedophile, and the adrenaline of "getting away with it" (at least for the time being) that also drives people to be pedophiles.
Although, I do remember reading that it's not very uncommon for women who were sexually abused as children to have "sexually intrusive thoughts" about kids. However, it did also say that for most of them those thoughts came very early and went away by ~18. I'm not sure if that answers any of your questions, or just gives you more questions lol.
