I think I agree. I don't think that our views are mutually exclusive, it just depends on the timeframe at which we look at things.
I'm convinced that genetics play a large but culture influences who procreates and thus decides the genetic makeup of the future. In so far it's more important in the longterm.
But take middle eastern countries for example. They marry their own relatives. And they do so quite often and have done so for a while.
If they'd change their culture overnight it would probably still take a couple of generations until they no longer have higher risk for inherited diseases.
