The short of the interaction is that I had taught him what it is, where it comes from, and the goal of whataboutism, how it can use one sentence to turn an otherwise legit piece, opinion, article, etc. into pure propaganda.
So learn it, learn how to call it out because it shuts people down almost instantly.
And you'll stop using it yourself. Whataboutism means you literally have no ground for your point - or at least need to reframe your foundation or point.

Yeah, I couldn’t remember which of you have more posts about that. I think one of yours was the last one I saw. I guess you’re not doing it right if you don’t have free mental real estate.
