I'm no expert with PS by any means but is that what you wanted to achieve?
If so, I got there by selecting the phone. Many ways to do that, I used the 'pen tool'. Once I had the selection I opened a new layer and applied a black to white gradient on an angle.
I noticed at that point the phone was full of residue from the previous owner so I copied the layer and cleaned that up a little with the clone tool. The thumb needed a little work around the edges too, clone tool again. Also cleaned up the edge of the phone a little by using the selection I had made with the pen tool, expanding it by a pixel, inverting the selection and sweeping around the edge with the 'sharpen tool'. Painted a bit of a shadow under the thumb on a new layer set to about 10 opacity.
Finally I created a new layer at the top with a blue-gray color applied to it and set it to 'screen' blend mode at about 10 percent opacity to help make it look like all the elements in the image are in the same environment.

How do you apply the gradient tool to the selection (iphone) only? I select the phone only and when I apply the gradient tool it changes the hole picture.

If the gradient applies to the whole image then you either don't have the phone selected or you have the whole or wrong layer selected.
When you have just the phone selected (with the marching ants around the phone) open a new layer and apply the gradient to the selection on the new layer.
I'm in the habit of making a selection on a new layer and filling the selection with color. That way I can "Ctrl+click' that layer if I want to use the selection again. When you 'Ctrl+click' a layer the pixels of that layer are selected (in other words the shape or outline or that layer). Note: make sure your selection isn't feathered when you save it this way.
Edit: I learned PS a long time ago on PS 7.0. but I haven't kept up with it. I can still get things done on the newer versions if I need to, though my methods may be crude.

Nice, thank you. Would you mind sending the PSD?
