If the magic lasso that MisterGrieves suggested doesn't work, you could try the polygon lasso tool. It will let you select an area by selecting a series of points around it. Just zoom in pretty far and use a ton of points and it will probably come out looking good.

I'm a bit of a control freak so I do it this way far more often than I should. I use a ton of points and it takes forever with most images, but this is a pretty basic shape so it shouldn't be too bad. Just use a lot of points and trace around the two edges you want to be the dark half, like the bottom and left edges or whatever, making a lot of points. You could start at the top left, finish at the bottom right, then connect the start and end points with a big diagonal line through the middle where you want the adjustment to happen.

Right side of the screen -> Adjustements -> Levels, right?

I'd start with Image -> Adjustments -> Brightness/Contrast.

I am starting to understand, thanks, but what would be the best way to make each selection less bright?
