A possible 3rd option that GAB could offer to get an invite code:
If a person is visiting from a 1st world IP address, from a major 1st world ISP (not VPN), they could have the option of going through 3 different captcha tests (pictures, words, math), and then GAB can send them an invite code.
This would filter out the bots and 3rd world spammers willing to manually do captchas all day for cheap.

Fuck captchas. I block all traffic which isn't hosted on the domain of my current page. Yes I can barely use the internet.
If they want to host some anti-spam puzzle on their own domain, sure.
