(((Copyright))) lost any legitimacy when you you can't use works from almost 100 years ago, long after the creators have been dead.

That shit was meant to end after 20 years after which it became public domain. Copyright was fair in that sense but what we have now is a perversion of protection laws to encourage greed by people who should have no right to the shekels they collect. (((Disney))) is the worst offender.

Disney is what caused it. They lobbied for copyright protections to last an extra 20 years. Mickey Mouse makes them a lot of fucking money -- a lot of money that Walt Disney never wanted them to get their grubby little hands on. To me, Walt Disney was the greatest American artist ever. And they took his magic and the happiest place on earth and spit on it.

I can respect 20 years of copyright, just like i can respect the length of a patent. But at a certain point art doesn't just belong to those who created it, it becomes part of the cultural heritage of a nation. It is the commercialization of what was once a proud tradition. Imagine of the works of Shakespeare were copyrighted for hundreds of years, ridiculous.
