The author of this piece (not sure how to refer to the person as Addison is usually a girl’s name, but these days who knows?) seems uncomfortable in conservative clothing. I understand nostalgia, but there are sound reasons retail design has gone from malls like that to larger malls to town center design. Keeping it for the sake of keeping it is simply economically inefficient.

Plus, what exactly would the solution be? Government mandates? Gentrification is a good thing even if it pushes the less economically viable housing and retail to other areas. It is not a problem to be fixed. It is simply a fact of life to be observed.
