Whats your budget? Just how concealable do you need the pistol to be?

If you are ok with concealing a larger pistol in the small of your back region I would recommend a 10mm caliber. Better penetration and stopping power than a .45 caliber. If you need a smaller pistol to conceal on your side hip or even just dropped down into your front pocket I can recommend the Ruger LCP in a 9mm if you are on a budget. If you can afford it though, the Sig Sauer P938 is hands down the best small 9mm pistol on the market today. It is expensive, but the P938 is a superb pistol.

Good luck and once you get your CCL, carry everyday. Be safe.

Less than $500 would be nice.

I plan to keep it in home for now. Carrying has some complications I'd rather avoid, and I don't leave the house often enough to make it worth the hassle.
