Well I'm no fancy city lawyer, but it seems to me that if a guy in a van is driving 85 and you have a car that can do 140, you wouldn't have much trouble passing before the van could get to 120.

Also you mention your normal speed is 110, in the rain no less.

Also what does it feel like to drive 140 in the rain, and what sort of car/tire combination do you run to prevent hydroplaning?

An 350 econoline can go from 80km/h to 120km/h easily enough, it doesn't take 200 meters to accelerate 40km/h.

I drive a Kia Sorento with winter tires, it feels very good doing 140 in the rain on properly engineered roads with excellent water drainage.
