I highly recommend reading a bit of Soviet history and seeing how long and deep that insanity went. Not many people who saw the beginning of that nightmare ever saw the end of it. Society can stay dystopian far longer than an individual can endure. Until they start demanding that electrical linemen ensure that all transmission lines are polarity neutral, the lights will stay on, the food trucks will come, and things will stay insane. The only change is that life will become worse and worse for the average person. Intelligent people will still take jobs that allow society to continue being insane and prop up society because they need to feed their families.

The collapse already happened. This is the "quasi-stable totalitarian dystopia" and we're probably trapped here for another 3-4 generations.
