Well, the new "Linux Code of Conduct" just relates to the Kernel development, which ships to every distribution. So i guess we won't see anything change for a while, but when contributions will have to be based on race and gender and not merit, these projects will go to shit.

I at least have a small hope given that kernel developers are not really gender studies majors, so maybe nothing will change... But wait for a while, when the first articles come out accusing these projects of not accepting enough "black transgender non cis code" and beeing a "white male eco chamber" or something...

Sounds like a good time to start from scratch, and make something better. The problem is they're eliminating the means to organize to do so, or even spread word if it were done.

We need reliable open source hardware, and a SAFE network, immediately. Probably mesh network asap, too, or maybe temporarily back to BBS?

Petition the FCC to open up the 900 mhz, 2.4ghz and 5 ghz bands to allow amateur radio with encryption. If that ever happens, meshnets become feasible over longer distances using directional antennas. As it stands, amateur radio operators are allowed to use those frequencies, but they can't carry traffic to the general internet because most internet traffic is encrypted and it is illegal to broadcast an encrypted signal without FCC approved hardware. Legal power and gain limits on residential wifi prevents long distance links from being possible, not technical difficulty. (A homebrew antenna can rx/tx wifi over a mile (directionally) but it's illegal to do so.)

Intercity and international links for meshnets are also technically difficult issues to tackle.
